The Konery

Kristine Tonkonow is a culinary master and developed a series of flavored waffle cone recipes. her creation ranges from the very popular birthday cake, chocolate hazelnut, toasted coconut waffle cones, all the way to experimental flavors such as gin gin mule, blue corn, and our studio favorite, the orange creamsicle. Originally she market her product under the name “Kones by K” and landed her an appearance in a TV show called “Restaurant Startups” on CNBC. We later used this show as a stepping stone to launch her new brand.

Brand Development

Working with Kristine closely, we renamed the business “The Konery” and create a mark that illustrate the premise of her product line via typography. The result is a very memorable brand mark that’s very unique and easily recognizable. The red emblem we designed are now displayed proudly everywhere touched by the Konery.

Product Development

When the Konery decided to invest in a new machine, we worked closely with them to develop a custom pattern for their waffle iron. This pattern helps to strengthen the integrity of the waffle cones so it withstand shipping a little bit better, as well as provide a recognizable visual cues when the brand name and logo is not available.

Addressing Retail

While we know the majority of the business will come from the wholesale avenue, the Konery want to have a retail channel as well. The first ever retail packaging we did, involved a lot of trial and errors. The first generation allows the client to split the production quantity among all the varieties by having the flavor are placed via hanging tags. A few years later, as the business grows, we designed a second series of packaging, with efficiency in mind. Each flavor has their own box and color coding, and the boxes are produced in large quantity.
